The footprints of the Romantic poets and writers are historically retraced in this gothick horror tale. Among these, Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, Edward Trelawny and Leigh Hunt. Their paths lead us through England, Italy, Greece and America. When Lord Byron and Dr. Polidori make a clandestine visit to America in 1819 they stay at an estate known as 'Bentwood'. Their host, Ferris Poole is a broadly educated American gentleman. He is fascinated by a recent literary work called 'The Vampyre' which has been attributed to Lord Byron. What starts off as an innocent inquiry now leads Ferris across several continents as he learns about the dark side of Byron's world. While doing so, he unwittingly becomes a vampyre himself named 'Feratu'. Upon returning to his beloved home of Bentwood, Feratu becomes consumed in studying the etymology of his 'disease'. He evolves into the “thinking person's vampyre” learning not only to survive, but persevere.
