Author Dwight Johnson learned to love stories from his father who was a master storyteller. Sometimes he would ask him after one of his taller tales, “Is that story really true?” His father’s answer was always the same, “All stories are true.” Eventually Dwight came to believe that indeed all stories were true, especially if they communicated true values or elicited true feelings. Now Dwight has taken his understanding of storytelling and put it in context of one of his other favorite things, his dogs. Much of what Dwight knows about life he owes to his faithful dogs. This particular book about Arnold brings the reader into the dog’s world, a world where it is impossible to hold a grudge, a world where fairness reigns supreme and a world where love is given unconditionally. Spend a year with Arnold and his family and learn about life, love and all the things that can truly make someone happy. |

Allie is excited to be in sixth grade, the highest grade in the school. She has confidence when she is helping children cross the street as a crossing guard, doing gymnastics in the school field, or arm wrestling the boys at recess. However, her confidence wavers around Patty, a popular 6th grader, whose cute, pink, “Nike” sweatshirt and deep blue, designer jeans make Allie’s new clothes from Woolworths look cheap, dull, and starchy. Things get worse as she starts to deal with how wide and short her feet really are. Buying shoes like her friends’ is not an option for her. Allie can only get shoes from the special shoe store for hard-to-fit feet. Her struggle to fit in causes her to wonder why God would give her such wide, short feet and she fears that she will have to wear “kiddy” shoes with no heels to the spring dance. Allie discovers the difference between bad friends and good friends and begins to believe that she truly is very special. |

How would you feel if Indians attacked your wagon, killed your Ma and Pa and kidnapped your little sister, Hannah? Thirteen-year-old Jacob Thompson is alive to tell his story only because he was rescued by two rough old mountain men in this pre-Oregon Trail adventure. Prophet is an old trapper who teaches Jacob mountain man’s ways as they search for his sister. Four-Toes Wallace is Prophet’s grouchy partner who has no use for anyone, especially Indians, and “greenhorns” like Jacob. Jacob is forced to grow up fast if he is to survive. He must master skills he never dreamed he’d need, and survive dangers he never thought he’d face. Along the way he discovers a new talent, which changes his life and gives him a new name. Can Jacob endure Four-Toes’ insults? Can he keep his scalp in dangerous Blackfeet country? Can he survive a deadly grizzly bear attack? And what about little Hannah?
